PILE DRIVING NOISE IMPACT ASSESSMENT

The driving of piles into the seabed using impact or vibratory hammers can potentially affect cetaceans and fish in the vicinity of the works. As such environment regulators may request a noise impact assessment to be carried out before a planning application can be given consent.
TransTech can carry out acoustic/hydroacoustic noise impact assessment for any scale of development from pile driving for small scale coastal works (e.g. bridges and piers) up to large scale developments such as offshore wind farm arrays. In situations where noise or acoustic vibrations could potentially impact or affect nearby properties this can also be assessed.
The assessments determine the acoustic and/or hydroacoustic sound emitted by the pile driving activity and its propagation through the surrounding environment. If requred acoustic noise monitoring equipement can be installed at a site to monitor sound levels potentaily impacting land based areas and/or for marine or freshwater works hydrophones can be deployed.
Where mitigation is required this will be agreed with the environment regulator. The work can be submitted as a standalone report or be written up as a chapter for inclusion in an Environmental Statement.
