HABITAT & ECOLOGICAL SURVEYS

Aquatic and associated littoral habitat surveys can be carried out to define substrate, habitat type/availability and flora/fauna diversity and abundance including GIS mapping of riparian vegetation, macrophytes, macroinvertebates and threatened fauna such as semi-aquatic mammals (water vole and otter), fish (incl. lamprey), great crested newt, crustaceans and molluscs (incl. freshwater pearl mussels). Such surveys are able to detect the effects from surrounding land use on the communities inhabiting riverine, natural and impounded aquatic and riparian environments.
We use environment regulator guidelines (for some examples please see below) and Centre of Ecology and Hydrology protocols amongst others to fully define a water system whether this be a river, stream, burn, lake, loch or lough.
We carry out surveys throughout Scotland which includes Highland and the Western Isles down to Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders and further afield including England, Wales, Northern Ireland and ROI.
To find out when protected species surveys can be carried out please view this document.
