ELECTROFISHING & FISH RELOCATION

Electrofishing of river systems to Scottish Fisheries Coordination Centre standards is carried out by TransTech in Scotland and we have additional accreditation for other countries. The main objectives of electrofishing are:
- Fish removal and relocation (e.g. for construction work next to a waterbody)
- Stock assessment (e.g. for hydro-electric scheme and wind farm developments)
- Fish health surveys
- Tagging
- Eliminating invasive species
Macroinvertebrate presence/absence surveys that meet environment regulator sampling standards can also be provided. Such surveys are used as a quick method to assess riverine health through the identification of key invertebrate family groups that have varying tolerances to pollution and habitat destruction.
Electrofishing, invertebrate sampling and fish relocation work can be presented as a standalone report or as a chapter for inclusion in an Environmental Statement.
Our fish relocation work is not limited to electrofishing. We can use other means to relocate fish such as hand netting or pumping.
